Bhubaneswar: On the third day of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) on Sunday organised a Special Heritage Walk in the Old Town of the capital city.
Around 75 people from different walks of life participated in the Heritage Walk which was organised as per COIVD guidelines. The walk started at 7.05 am from the 10th century Mukteswar temple, which is known for its unique arch and beautiful carvings on the temple wall projecting the Kalingan temple architecture.
The participants visited various temples in the area including Lingaraj, Parasurameswar, Ananta Vasudev and Gourishankar. They also went to Bindusagar lake and Old Dharamsala,
The youngest participant 7-year-old Aaniya Rajhans from KIIT International School said she would love to come to visit the places in near future after the COVID situation eases.
Another participant, Apoorva Pillay, a conservation architect from Hyderabad, said, “It was quite an enlightening experience on the Kalingan temple architecture. What I found the most fascinating was the Buddhist influence on Kalinga architecture depicted in the form of sculptures and the elaborate and one of its kind arch (torana) at Mukteshwar temple entrance.”
The BSCL organised an all-women cyclathon as part of a three-day celebration of the Mahotsav. On the first day, a visit to the Integrated Command and Control Centre was organised.
