Mumbai: A 29-year-old New York returnee tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19 on Friday, according to a release from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The release further stated that the man, with no symptoms, had taken three jabs of Pfizer’s COVID vaccine.
He tested positive following a test conducted at the airport on November 9. His samples were further sent for genome sequencing. However, two of his high-risk contacts tested negative, said the BMC.
“The patient has been admitted to a hospital as a precautionary measure and he has no symptoms,” the Mumbai civic body was quoted as saying in the release by news agency PTI.
The Omicron patients’ tally soared to 15 in the country’s financial capital, including those five who are from outside the city. But 13 of the patients have already been discharged from hospitals.
According to BMC, none of the 15 Omicron patients in the city has reported severe symptoms so far.
The Omicron tally in Maharashtra has reached 40.
