Tinsukia: After more than five months, the fire from a blowout in Baghjan gas well in Assam has finally been completely doused. Oil India Limited (OIL) announced on Sunday that the well has been killed with brime solution.
A massive fire broke out in the gas well in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district two weeks a major blow took place leading to gas leak.
The fire continued for weeks before it was tamed with the help of foreign experts.
OIL tweeted on Saturday that there was no pressure in the well but it will be under observation for 24 hours. The well has thereafter been abandoned.
A National Green Tribunal (NGT) panel earlier concluded that OIL had been operating the natural gas well without required permissions, recommending legal action against the company and its officials.
