Bhubaneswar: The maximum day temperature crossed 42 degree Celsius in three towns on Monday while the mercury in 4 other places hovered at 40 degrees and above on the day.
As many as 7 urban centres in the region registered temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Monday.
According to regional office of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Balangir was the hottest place in the state with 42.6 degree Celsius, followed by Titlagarh, other another town in the district, which recorded 42.5 degree Celsius on the day. While Boudh recorded 42, the other areas that registered temperature above 40 degrees are: Jharsuguda 40.8 degrees; Bhawanipatna and Sonepur 40.6 degrees each; Sundargarh 40.5 and Sambalpur 40.1 degree Celsius.
The Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack marginal decline in temperature with 34.4 and 34.2 degree Celsius respectively.
Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershower in several parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.
According to its forecast, light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati till 8.30 am of Tuesday.
Between 8.30 am of March 5 to March 6: Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj and Balasore.
Between 8.30 am of March 6 to March 7:
