New Delhi: The ban on roadshows and political rallies in five poll-bound states has been extended till February 11 because of the COVID-19 situation.

Other restrictions like padayatra, cycle/bike/vehicle rallies, and processions will continue, but the Election Commission of India (ECI) did announce some relaxations on Monday.

Number of people who can attend public meetings of political parties or contesting candidates has been increased from 500 to 1,000 or 50% of venue capacity — whichever is lesser — from February 1.

Door-to-door campaigns can be done by 20 people instead of 10, while indoor meetings of political parties can be attended by 500 people instead of the previous 300.

Assembly elections will be held in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur and Punjab in February-March.
