New Delhi: Denied permission to perform in Bengaluru amid protests by right-wing outfits, comedian Munawar Faruqui has announced a new show which has found a new taker.

The stand-up comedian took to social media to share a link through which tickets can be booked for his two-hour comedy act ‘Dhandho’ which will be staged in Kolkata on January 16.

Seats, priced at Rs 799, were ‘filling fast’, according to online ticket booking platform BookMyShow.

The 29-year-old comedian became a controversial figure after being accused of hurting religious sentiments through his show. An FIR was lodged against him by a BJP MLA’s son and Munawar had to spend a month in jail at Indore.

Last month, Bengaluru Police denied permission to his stand-up comedy show, for which he claimed more than 600 tickets had already been sold. Faruqui said 12 of his shows had been cancelled in October-November due to threats to the venue and audiences.

“My name is Munawar Faruqui. And that’s been my time, you guys were (a) wonderful audience. Good bye, I’m done,” Munawar had tweeted.

Shows of another stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, who has been a critic of the Centre, were also cancelled in Bengaluru following threats to organizers.
