Bargarh: Following the brutal assault on four persons including the brother of minister Susant Singh by a group of armed miscreants at Banabira in Sohela Block in Odisha’s Bargarh district, the driver of the ill-fated vehicle succumbs to his injuries at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack late on Friday night.

Sources said the four seriously injured including Subrat Singh, the brother of minister Susant Singh, were admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research(VIMSAR) at Burla on Thursday night after the brutal assault.

However, as the condition of the driver Dileswar Sahu worsened further, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack with serious injuries on his head and other parts of his body. After being admitted at the Hospital at 2 AM, he succumbed to his injuries at 2.40 AM.

“We left Burla at about 5 PM and arrived at SCB Medical College and Hospital at about 1.30 AM and admitted my son-in-law at 2 AM after consulting with the doctors. But he died at 2.40 AM while undergoing treatment,” said the grief-stricken father-in-law Sribatsa Khamari.

Meanwhile, the condition of the three others at VIMSAR is stated to be stable, sources said.

Expressing profound grief over the death of Sahu, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced that the state government would bear all expense of the children of the deceased in their education and provide maintenance for his family.

“Such barbaric act cannot be tolerated in a peace-loving state of Odisha. The state government will initiate stern action against those involved in the incident,” Patnaik said while paying tribute to the deceased at the party’s headquarters office in Bhubaneswar.
