‘Basti ku Chala’ Abhiyan, Another People-Friendly Step By Commissionerate Police

Bhubaneswar: In another people-friendly approach by police, Commissionerate Police has come up with a new initiative ‘Basti Ku Chala’ programme.

Aimed at checking crime and nabbing criminals, particularly those coming from outside state and seeking shelter in slums to escape the police attention, police teams will visit slums every week.

The  action plan for crime-free slums began on Monday with the visit of a team of police personnel to Airfield slum.

As part of the plan, some youth of the slums will be included in police network too. The youth identified for the purpose will tagged with a police team so that they will remain under the scanner.

Since they are aware of the area’s topography and its population, they will be help police in checking illegal trades like drugs, brown sugar, illegal sale of alcohol, among others. The exercise is also aimed at motivating them to leave the path of crime.

The decision comes in the backdrop of a seizure of more than a 100 mobile phones from three Jharkhand-based thieves who were living on rent in a slum in Laxmi Sagar area of the city.

Police said the thefts were carried out by a group from Jharkhand which was staying on rent in Chintamineswar slum.

The Bhubaneswar DCP appealed people to be extra cautious while giving house on rent to people, particularly those from outside state. He asked the house owners to collect details from the tenants and furnish the same in their area police station for their own safety and also help the police check crime.
