Bhubaneswar: Special squad of Commissionerate Police has arrested three persons, including one Ram Kumar of Uttar Pradesh of a ‘Bawaria’ gang, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh informed on Saturday.
Two gold chains and a stolen motorcycle were also seized from Kumar’s possession.
Speaking about the ‘Bawaria’ gang, Singh said the case pertains to a chain-snatching incident under Kharvela Nagar police limits. “The gang members belong to Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh. They usually come in groups, steal motorcycles and then engage in a series of chain-snatching and other loot incidents. They travel by train to different states and engage in such crimes,” he said.
The DCP further stated that Akash Samal of Cuttack Sadar area and Sital Behera of Bidanasi area were nabbed in a separate complaint of chain snatching lodged at Saheed Nagar police station.
He said burglary cases are also pending against the duo. “Twelve cases, including one under Arms Act, are registered against Akash. Two gold chains have been seized from them,” he added.
