BCCI Announces Major Hike In Prize Money For Domestic Tournaments

Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to domestic cricket in the country, the BCCI on Sunday announced substantial increase in prize money for all the tournaments.

In a tweet BCCI secretary Jay Shah said, “I’m pleased to announce an increase in prize money for all BCCI domestic tournaments. We will continue our efforts to invest in domestic cricket which is the backbone of Indian Cricket.”

As per the announcement of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Ranji Trophy winners, who currently get Rs 2 crore, will be receiving Rs 5 crore, while the runners-up and losing semifinalists will get Rs 3 crore (earlier Rs 1 crore) and Rs 1 crore (earlier Rs 50 lakh) respectively.

The prize money for the Irani Cup winners has been now doubled-from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. Similarly, the prize money for the Duleep Trophy winners has been more than doubled from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 1 crore.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy winners will now get Rs 1 crore in place of Rs 30 lakh earlier. The DB Deodhar Trophy winners will ne awarded Rs 40 lakhs compared to Rs 25 lakh ealier. The Mushtaq Ali Trophy winners will get Rs 80 lakh instead of Rs 25 lakhs.

The women’s domestic cricket has also got even more increase in prize money. The winners of the senior Women’s One-Day Trophy will now get Rs 50 lakh in place of Rs 6 lakh earlier and the senior Women’s T20 Trophy winners will take home Rs 40 lakh, which is 8 times of Rs 5 lakh earlier.

In September 2021, the BCCI had hiked the match fee of the domestic cricketers with the senior men earning between Rs 40,000 and 60,000 per day and senior women upto Rs 20,000 per day.

Indian cricket’s 2023-24 domestic season will start with the Duleep Trophy tournament from June 28 while the flagship Ranji Trophy will commence from January 5 next year.
