Balangir: Vigilance officials apprehended a block development officer (BDO) while accepting bribe of Rs 1.8 lakh in Odisha’s Balangir on Monday.
Following a complaint by a contractor that Binod Kumar Naik, BDO of Gudvela block was demanding Rs 1.5 lakh to assign him new block work estimated at Rs 30 lakh and Rs 30,000 for the works already executed, the Vigilance set up a trap.
As per the plan, the contractor went to give the demanded amount to the BDO. While Naik was accepting the bribe, the Vigilance sleuths caught him red-handed and recovered the total amount.
Following the seizure of bribe money, the Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches on the properties of Naik at 3 locations to ascertain disproportionate assets.
Sambalpur Vigilance has registered a case under PC Amendment Act, 2018 in this connection, and further investigation is on.
