Cuttack: The marital discord between Berhampur couple Dr Sumit Sahu and Tapaswini witnessed a new twist on Wednesday with the Orissa High Court upholding lower court’s decision regarding payment of maintenance.
Orissa HC upheld a lower court’s decision ordering Dr Sumit of Brahmanagar in Berhampur to pay Rs 17,000 maintenance to his wife Tapaswini by the 10th of every month.
On January 11, Sumit had filed a plea in the High Court against Berhampur District court’s order an order.
It may be mentioned that the district court had ordered Tapaswini to live in Sumit’s paternal house in Bramahnagar and asked him to pay Rs 17,000 every month as maintenance.
Tapaswini has been fighting for justice since November 22, last year. Dressed as a bride, she staged a dharna outside his house demanding entry and stay with him. Tapaswini has received support from social activists who have been standing by her.
The HC has scheduled the next hearing to February 15.
