New Delhi: The Centre on Monday issued an advisory to all states and Union Territories, asking them to tighten security during Tuesday’s Bharat Bandh called by protesting farmers who are demanding the withdrawal of contentious farm laws.
The bandh is being backed by most Opposition parties like the Congress, NCP, DMK, SP, TRS and Left Front.
A Home Ministry official informed that states and UTs have been told that peace and tranquillity must be maintained during Tuesday’s Bharat Bandh at any cost, and adequate precautionary measures must be taken so that no untoward incident takes place.
The other important aspect is health norms amidst the pandemic, and the Home Ministry urged state governments and UT administrations to take steps to ensure that COVID-19 guidelines, like social distancing, are strictly followed.
Over the past 12 days, thousands of farmers — mostly from Punjab, and some from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh – have been protesting at different border points of Delhi, braving the chill and determined not to budge until the Centre repeals the three farm laws.
