Bhubaneswar: Odisha capital Bhubaneswar turned a hot cauldron on Thursday when the day temperature zoomed to 43.2 degree Celsius even as mercury hovered over 40 degree in most places of the state.
According to regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, as many as 11 places in the state recorded maximum temperature of 42 degree Celsius or more on the day.
While Boudh was the hottest with a temperature of 43.9 degree Celsius, Bhubaneswar was the second hottest, followed by Talcher and Kendrapada which sizzled at 43 degree Celsius.
Cuttack city continued to feel the gruelling heat with a temperature of 42 degree Celsius, while Angul recorded 42.1 degree, Jharsuguda 42.8, Malkangiri 42.6, Bhawanipatna, Nuapada and Balangir 42 degree Celsius.
The IMD has issued orange warning for Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Cuttack, Khurda where heat wave condition is very likely to occur at one or two places for next 24 hours.
It has also issued yellow warning and said heat wave condition is very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur and Boudh.
The MeT office also said several districts are likely to experience thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph with more widespread rain, leading to a gradual fall in the day temperature by 2 to 4 degree Celsius, on April 22-23.
