Bhubaneswar: Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) has recorded a growth of above 70 per cent over the national average in terms of traffic in the past five years.
While the national average growth in air traffic is only 17 per cent in the last five years, BPIA has recorded 29 per cent. “If you look at the past five years air traffic growth from Bhubaneswar has been very good. The growth has been 29 per cent as compared to the national average of only 17 per cent. This shows the potential,” said Union Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola speaking to mediapersons.
Kharola said the number of flights from Bhubaneswar is now more than 280 a week, which is almost 40 flights in a day.
“I must say today’s meeting with the participation of the Government of India, the state government, all airlines and Chairman of Airport Authority of India was a unique experiment to prepare a roadmap on how to use this to realise the ultimate potential,” Kharola said.
