Bhubaneswar: With his assaulters out on bail, city-based businessman Parvinder Pal Singh has expressed apprehensions over his safety.
“I am shocked as to why the accused were not booked under the section for attempt to murder and got bail within a few hours of their arrest. I have no faith in police and feel threatened,” Singh said.
He had earlier said that his family had been living under constant fear following the attack in presence of police. “Who will given an assurance that they will not retaliate?” he asked, pointing at the involvement of the son of a former corporator in the incident.
Speaking to Odisha Bytes, DCP Bhubaneswar Arun Sahoo said that the case was registered on the basis of circumstantial evidence and the medical report. “I have personally met the victim and an ACP has been posted outside the apartment since last night to ensure his safety,” he added.
Singh was beaten black and blue when he reportedly asked two men to move their vehicle aside from the entrance of his apartment under Laxmisagar police limits on Tuesday. The incident took place in front of his minor daughter and in presence of policemen, who allegedly stood there merely as mute spectators.
In his complaint, the businessman alleged that the accused abused him when he asked them to move their vehicle. “I managed to get inside and dial 100. When the police arrived, they insisted that I come outside despite my reluctance. The anti-socials then thrashed me in front of the police,” he said.
Besides arresting the three accused, the Commissionerate Police acted swiftly and permanently removed the PCR van in-charge from the police department for negligence.
Those arrested were granted bail by the SDJM court here later in the day.
