Bhubaneswar: The investigation into the double murder in the capital city has revealed what took the accused so long to inform the police through his nephew after committing the crime.
According to police sources, the accused, Abanti Bijaya Mangaraj confessed to have killed his wife Swarna Lata Mangaraj and their 10-year-old son by strangulating them with a stole around 3 am on Tuesday. But he informed his nephew through WhatsApp message about the crime at 3 pm.
Abanti’s WhatsApp messages also revealed that he had also sent messages to his brother-in-law Sumanta Pradhan and uncle-in-law Narayan Pradhan that he had killed Swarna and their son.
Abanti mentioned in the messages that he had sent money to his wife’s elder brother to perform last rites of the deceased.
The sources said Abanti had gone to a bank after committing the murder and taken a loan by keeping gold ornaments of his wife as mortgage. Then he sent the money through electronic transaction to Swarna’s brother. Apparently the entire process took time and then only he informed everybody through messages, the sources added.
It may be noted that Abanti, who was staying with his family in K-4 area of Kalinga Nagar in Bhubaneswar, had sustained huge loss in the share market. Unable to find any way to make up the loss, he decided to kill his wife and son and commit suicide.
As per his statement to police, Abanti mixed sleeping tablets in the food of his wife and son on Monday night. As they fell asleep, he killed both of them by strangulating them with a stole at 3 am on Tuesday. He later tried to commit suicide but did not succeed.
