Bhubaneswar: As most parts of Odisha continued to sizzle amid intense heatwave conditions, state capital Bhubaneswar recorded a temperature of 32.8 degree Celsius by 8.30 am on Sunday.
Coupled with the soaring mercury, humidity continued to remain high, making life miserable for the denizens. The capital city recorded humidity of 66 per cent in the morning.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several districts of the state are likely to experience heatwave to severe heatwave over the next three to four days. The temperature may start dropping thereafter. The state is unlikely to witness any respite from the scorching heat for next four days.
During the last 24 hours, places like Phulbani, Hirakud, Keonjhar, Balangir, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur experienced severe heatwave conditions, the MeT office said. Similarly, several places including Koraput, Sundargarh, Titlagarh and Bhawanipatna faced heatwave.
The IMD has forecast that there will be no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) at many places in the state during next four days. Maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 3-5 degree Celsius at some places.
Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is likely during next 4 days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during 11 am and 3 pm, the Met office said.
It has issued yellow warning and said heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at some places in Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
