Bhubaneswar: Even as several places in Odisha recorded a drop in temperature, Bhubaneswar emerged as the hottest place and 17 locations saw the mercury going up to 40 degree Celsius or more on Monday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, the state capital recorded the highest maximum (day) temperature of 43.8 degree Celsius. The state capital had recorded 43.6°C on April 19 and 41.6°C on April 21.
As many as 8 places in the state witnessed the mercury rising to 41 degree or more. While Paralakhemundi followed Bhubaneswar with 42.9 degree, Baripada registered 42.6, Nuapada 42.4, Kendrapada 41.8, Jagatsinghpur 41.6 and Bhadrak and Jajpur 41 degree Celsius.
The IMD said day temperature is very likely to likely to be 40°C or above at many places in interior Odisha and above normal by 3 to 5°C in some parts during next 24 hours due to prevailing mainly northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation.
It has issued a yellow warning and forecast that heat wave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balangir, Boudh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Nuapada.
