Bhubaneswar: Several members of the Bhubaneswar Bar Association staged a dharna outside the District and Sessions Judge Court premises on Friday demanding the shifting of the Orissa High Court from Cuttack to the capital city or the establishment of a HC bench here.
According to sources, the lawyers of the District and Sessions Judge Court locked its gate to press their demands. They have also demanded district status for Bhubaneswar.
The agitators reportedly gheraoed the District Judge. Unable to enter the court, several Judges were seen waiting outside the building, added sources.
“Every state has its High Court (HC) in the capital city except for Odisha. We have been demanding the shifting of the HC to the capital city from Cuttack since 1991. Secondly, we also demand a separate district status for Bhubaneswar,” an agitating lawyer told the media.
