Bhubaneswar: City-based mime artist Chittaranjan Satpathy has volunteered to spread awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic by his performances across the Odisha capital.
The techie-turned-mime artist, who is enrolled under the Culture Ministry’s senior fellowship scheme, observed that he took the initiative as many people were not following the government guidelines to contain the spread of the virus.
“On Sunday, I decided to create awareness on COVID-19 close to my home at Chandi Bazaar. I used cosmetics, dressed up and started performing a mime act in the area,” Satpathy told the New Indian Express.
His mime act highlighted the messages of washing hands frequently, wearing masks, practicing social distancing and maintaining cleanliness among others.
Impressed by Satpathy’s creative efforts, the Additional CP, Anup Kumar, gave him permission to perform mime acts across Bhubaneswar to create awareness about the pandemic.
On Wednesday, the artist performed for around three hours at the Unit-1 vegetable market in Bhubaneswar.
