Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) have issued severe heatwave warning for several places in Odisha for the next 5 days.
“Maximum temperature is likely to remain 4-6 degrees above normal at a few places in the state during next 5 days. People are advised to take precautionary measure (avoid heat exposure, keep cool and avoid dehydration) while going outside during daytime between 11 am and 3 pm,” the weather agency said in its midday bulletin.
The MeT office has issued severe heatwave warning for a few places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir till 8.30 am on Tuesday. Heatwave condition is also likely to prevail at one or two places in Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada.
By 2.30 pm, the mercury soared to 45.3 degree Celsius in Sambalpur followed by Hirakud at 44.4 degree Celsius, Bhubaneswar at 43.8 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda at 41.4 degree Celsius and Keonjhar at 40 degree Celsius. The state capital also recorded 40% humidity by this hour of the day.
