Bhubaneswar: With the summer sun spewing fire, the Odisha capital recorded a maximum temperature of 40.3 degree Celsius at 8.30 am on Wednesday, which is likely to touch 41, the IMD’s mid-day bulletin said.
Rain and thunderstorm is expected to occur on Thursday.
However, the highest temperature of 45 degree Celsius was recorded in Sambalpur.
Heat wave warning has been issued for western up to coastal Odisha for the next 24 hours.
According to the forecast, heat wave is likely to prevail at some places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Bargarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Boudh and at one or two places in Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda and Bhadrak districts.
The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rain or thundershower at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and Jagatsinghpur districts.
