Bhubaneswar Witnesses High Humidity Levels; 96% By 5.30AM, 79% By 8.30AM

Bhubaneswar: Amid the heatwave warning for some places in Odisha, Bhubaneswar recorded a temperature of 32.2 degree Celsius by 8.30 am on Saturday but what made life miserable for the denizens was the humidity of 79%.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the coastal areas witnessed an overcast sky and saw a slight fall in the day temperature this morning but high humidity due to moisture incursion in the atmosphere. The highest of 86% was reported in Puri followed by Bhubaneswar (79), Cuttack (76), Gopalpur (75) and Balasore and Chandbali at 65%.

The state capital had recorded a maximum temperature of 30.2 degree Celsius by 5:30 am while the humidity level stood at 96%.

While the weather agency has issued heatwave warning for one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Sundargarh and Keonjhar, thunderstorm with lightning is likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada during the next 24 hours.

There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain at one or two places in coastal Odisha, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri during this period.

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature is likely to remain 3-5 degrees above normal at a few places in Odisha during next 4 days.

Meanwhile, the well-marked low pressure area over northeast Bay of Bengal was over Northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining area of Southeast Bangladesh-North Myanmar Coasts at 5.30 am. Conditions are also favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Kerala, some more parts of Tamil Nadu, some parts of Karnataka and some more parts of southwest, central and northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeastern states during next 24 hours. Conditions are also becoming favourable for advance of the monsoon over the remaining parts of northeastern states and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during subsequent 48 hours, it added.
