Bengaluru: Political parties are known to make election promises, many of which are not fulfilled.
Some of these promises are quite bizarre in nature.
Take the case of HD Kumaraswamy.
Ahead of next month’s state Assembly elections, the former Karnataka chief minister said at a poll rally that his party JD(S) will give Rs 2 lakh to women if they tie the knot with farmers’ sons.
“I received a petition that girls are not ready to get married to farmers’ sons. To encourage the marriage of farmers’ children, the government should give Rs 2 lakh to the girls. This is one of the programmes which will be introduced to protect the self-respect of our boys,” India Today quoted Kumaraswamy as saying.
Kumaraswamy, the son of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, was CM of Karnataka from February 2006 to October 2007.
The family is embroiled in an internal feud over ticket distribution for the May 10 election. Kumaraswamy’s sister-in-law Bhavani Revanna and her family are adamant on the Hassan ticket, but the former is not willing to play ball.
Despite head of the family Deve Gowda convening a meeting of family members recently, there was no consensus on the issue.
