Ruchika was found hanging from ceiling in her hostel room by some students on Saturday morning. She took the extreme step after her roommates left for the college to attend the classes, the sources said.
Bhubaneswar: The girl student of BJB Autonomous College in Odisha capital, who was found dead in her hostel room on Saturday, has reportedly stated in a suicide note that she committed suicide due to harassment by her seniors.
According to sources, a team from Badagada police station had rushed to the hostel after being informed about the girl’s alleged suicide. During investigation at the spot, the police found the suicide note in the room where the girl was found hanging.
The victim was identified as Ruchika Mohanty, a first-year student of Plus 3 Arts with History Honours of the college. Ruchika, in her suicide note, has mentioned that some of her senior students were regularly ragging and harassing her in the college.
Though she did not mention the names of the seniors, who were harassing her, she stated that she was unable to focus on her studies due to the mental torture.
Ruchika’s mother Bidyutprava Mohanty, who stays in Cuttack, was not aware of the ragging of her daughter in the prestigious college. She filed a complaint at Badagada police station after the suicide note came to light. She has sought arrest of those responsible for her daughter’s suicide.
