Bhubaneswar: After launching its three-day protest against LPG price rise across the state on Monday last, the BJD has threatened to intensify the agitation, if the Centre fails to bring down the cooking gas cost by November 30.
Stating that LPG price has gone up to Rs 930 per cylinder from Rs 414 in seven-year rule of the BJP at the Centre, the ruling party in Odisha, in a release, said it has severely affected the common man.
The LPG price has gone up by 70% in last three and half years, while the much-hyped ‘Ujjwala Yojana’ of the Centre has failed to benefit the target population living below poverty line, it added.
While the people are struggling to cope with the socio-economic fallout of the COVID pandemic, the rising price of the cooking gas has added to their burden, the BJD said adding that it will intensify the agitation, if the Centre does not take steps to bring the price under control.
The BJD workers along with the members of Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD), Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) and Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) staged protest in all blocks under the three Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) zones in the state from Monday.
