Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) launched a three-day statewide protest against rising fuel prices on Monday.
The party will be organising a series of demonstrations and meetings in all 314 blocks of the state on these three days as a mark of protest against the skyrocketing petrol and diesel prices.
As a part of the protest, a group of party members staged a dharna in front of Raj Bhawan here this morning.
“We strongly condemn the Centre’s anti-people move to increase fuel prices. The Narendra Modi-led BJP Government at the Centre has failed to reduce the excise duty on petroleum products. The hike will have a rippling effect on the prices of essential commodities and put unnecessary burden on the common people,” said senior party leader Prasanna Acharya.
The BJD will intensify the stir, if prices are not slashed by the central government, he added.
