Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLAs on Friday submitted a memorandum to the President over the step motherly attitude of the Centre towards Odisha. They also mentioned the unemployment issue.
The MLAs went in a rally from the Assembly to Raj Bhavan and submitted the memo to Odisha Governor, Prof Dr Ganeshi Lal.
The memo said that the BJP led NDA government had failed to deliver the promises on the basis of which it had been elected by the people in 2014.
Had the BJP kept its promise of two crore jobs each year for the youth, more than 10 crores youth would have been appointed by the Central Government. Odisha’s share would have been employment for 50 lakh youth, the memo said.
The Central Government should publish the list of 36 lakh youth of Odisha who have been employed in all the Centre-run PSUs, said a BJD leader.
“The Central Government uses our natural resources through PSUs like, MCL, NALCO, NTPC and IOCL etc and generates huge revenue. But there is no visible number of youth from Odisha employed in these PSUs. Thus Odisha is being exploited and deprived on both the fronts,” the MLAs complained.
They urged the President to direct the Centre to take the responsibility of creating employment opportunities for our youth instead of trying to play a blame game.
BJD MLA Sanjay Das Burma threatened to intensify the stir by taking it to the state-level as the Centre has been allegedly deceiving the youths and workforce of the state.
