New Delhi: Biju Janata Dal Rajya Sabha MP Dr Sasmit Patra on Friday raised the demand for passing of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament through a Special Mention in the Upper House of parliament.
Patra said that passing the Women’s Reservation Bill in parliament will be a historic step towards empowering 66 crore women in India, especially when India is celebrating its 75 years of Independence and has the presidency of the G-20.
“By passing the Women’s Reservation Bill in parliament, India can set a shining achievement before the world,” Dr. Patra said. 33% reservation for women through this Bill will offer new opportunities of leadership to women and help India to become the best nation in the world, he added.
Patra further said, “My leader and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and our party, the Biju Janata Dal, have been demanding the passahe of the Women’s Reservation Bill for many years now. In 2018, Naveen Patnaik sent BJD party delegations to 22 political parties and sought their support for the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill. Many political parties supported his initiative. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Patnaik ensured 33% party tickets for Lok Sabha seats for women candidates and many of them are Lok Sabha MPs today.”
Concluding his special mention, Patra reiterated that the Women’s Reservation Bill should be tabled in the parliament at the earliest and passed.
