Lucknow: The BJP has asked its Uttar Pradesh MLA Suresh Tiwari to show cause for allegedly asking people not to buy vegetables from Muslim vendors. He has been given a week to reply.
BJP president was learnt to have pulled up the state’s top brass for not taking prompt action against Tiwari for making such “highly irresponsible” remarks.
Nadda said that the BJP will not “tolerate” such behaviour and urged party leaders and workers to refrain from making such statements.
The Yogi Adityanath-headed government wasted no time thereafter in issuing Tiwari a showcause letter.
Tiwari, an MLA from Barhaj constituency in UP’s Deoria district, was seen saying in a video clip: “I am saying this openly: don’t purchase vegetables from Muslims (Ek cheez dhayan mein rakhiyega, main bol raha hoon openly, koi bhi miyan ke hathon sabzi nahi lega).”
