Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal president and Leader of Opposition (LOP) in Odisha Assembly Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday lashed out at the BJP for ‘lying’ people of Odisha with ‘false promises’.
Addressing district presidents and state-level leaders of Biju Mahila Janata Dal at Sankha Bhavan on Wednesday, the former Odisha CM said whether it was Subhadra Yojana or the 300 unit free electricity, BJP has hoodwinked people of the state on all fronts.
“In the last election leaders from across India came and made big promises to Odisha people. However in reality the work done on ground was zero,” said Naveen.
Highlighting the payment module of Subhadra Yojana Naveen said, “The BJP said it would give Rs 50,000 in 2 years. Now it is 5 years, which means Rs 5000 in 6 months. Besides, all women are not covered under the scheme.”
Naveen warned the state government not to play with trust of the electorate. “Women of Odisha are educated and very conscious. They will give an appropriate answer to all this. Expose the lies of BJP in all households of the state,” Naveen exhorted his party workers.
Expressing concern on rising cases of crime against women, Naveen said that it was equivalent to crime against God and humanity.
In our culture we worship women as mother Goddess. You should always extend support to women in distress and instil courage in her to face the challenge boldly, he added.
The BJD president concluded, “It is expected that finally reservation for women may come in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha. So we should focus on enrolling more and more women during membership drive. I would be actively giving more responsibility to women in the party organisation.”
