Bargarh: The BJP leaders who had staged dharna at the Gaisilat Police Station in Odisha’s Bargarh district late on Monday night, withdrew the dharna on Tuesday following the assurance by the Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma.
The party leaders had staged a protest dharna alleging that a team of police of Gaisilat Police Station led by the IIC, during a raid on their party office in Bargarh in the night had misbehaved some women workers in presence of the leader of the BJP legislature party KV Singhdeo and MLA Pradip Purohit. They demanded immediate arrest of the IIC for his misconduct.
Talking to media persons, Purohit said the DGP in a telephonic conversation with KV Singhdeo assured him that the police would take appropriate action after investigating into the incident. “Besides, the DGP also assured that a special police officer has been asked to remain in charge of Gaisilat Police Station,” he added.
Protesting the coercive action of the police, the BJP workers, led by BJP state vice-president had staged dharna near the DGP camp office in Bhubaneswar till late night hours on Monday.
