Bhubaneswar: Opposition BJP on Wednesday moved a breach of privilege notice in Odisha Assembly against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik making a ‘suo motu’ statement in the House two days ago.

Senior BJP leader and opposition chief whip Mohan Majhi said that earlier demands had been made for statement from the Chief Minister several times, but he never respond to the pleas. Though there was no demand by anyone, the Chief Minister chose to make a ‘suo motu’ statement on Monday in a surprise move, he said.

This indicates that the Chief Minister was fully prepared to protect the 5T Secretary, Majhi told reporters outside the House.

Accusing the CM of having insulted the opposition MLAs while making his statement, the BJP leader sought to know as to how the Chief Minister described opposition legislators as ‘anti-people.” Majhi also sought an apology from the Chief Minister.

Congress legislature party leader Narasingha Mishra supported the breach of privilege notice moved by BJP and claimed that the Chief Minister has made insulting remarks against the opposition by terming them as ‘anti-people’ in his statement.

The House witnessed pandemonium for the fourth day of the Monsoon session. Following uproar by the opposition legislators, Speaker Pramila Mallik adjourned the House till 4 pm. The house was initially adjourned for 10 minutes first. As pandemonium continued after the House reassembled, it was adjourned till 4 pm.
