Bhubaneswar: After raising her voice against alleged encroachment of government land and obstruction of irrigation water on the outskirts of Odisha capital, BJP leader and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi on Thursday claimed about another land grabbing incident in the same area.

Writing on X, the firebrand BJP leader alleged that another land grabbing case involving the same entrepreneur has come to light at Bhagabatipur on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

Aparajita said an 82-year-old man, who has lost his son to Covid-19, has informed her about a land grabbing case by the entrepreneur. The man in a letter has alleged that a piece of land purchased by his deceased son in Bhagabatipur mouza has been illegally acquired.

Claiming that the old man is now crying as a “lavish empire is built on tears of poor,” the BJP leader wondered as to how much land does one need. She also referred to Leo Tolstoy’s story “How much land does a man need?”

The parliamentarian further sought to know whether the entrepreneur is drawing support from an influential person in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). She also appended the letter written to her by the man, Ramesh Chandra Das.

The entrepreneur named by the Lok Sabha member was not immediately available for comment.

It may be recalled here that Aparajita had recently made allegation about obstruction of canal water from Deras Minor Irrigation Project due to encroachment of government land on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. She alleged that farmers were deprived of irrigation water for over 300 acres of land because of this obstruction. Following her claim, the government ordered immediate steps for removal of encroachment from the area.
