Puri: BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra on Tuesday walked burning coal during Jhamu Jatra in Odisha’s Puri district.
The BJP leader from Odisha was seen walking bare foot on red hot coals spread on a stretch of nearly 15 feet as per the ritual during the Jatra at Revati Raman village under Samanga panchayat in Puri Sadar block. Later, Patra performed puja at the local presiding deity Maa Jhadeswari in the temple.
Speaking to the media, he said he took up the painstaking task for the welfare of people and peace in the area. Patra had contested as BJP candidate from Puri Lok Sabha constituency in the last election in 2019. But he lost to Pinaki Mishra of BJD in the election.
It may be noted that as per the tradition, the members of ‘Danda Patua’ and the devotees walk on the fire to fulfil their wishes before the deity. But Patra did not reveal what he did he wish for the painful walk.
