Bhubaneswar: Odisha BJP will stick to ‘Mission 120’, set by then national president of the party Amit Shah in the last Assembly elections, for coming polls also, but would change the strategy to achieve it, said state party president Samir Mohanty.
Speaking to media persons during a visit to Haridaspur village on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Sunday, Mohanty said they have been working on a mission mode to bag 120 seats in next Assembly elections in 2024. “We have been getting feedback from the voters in every constituency through our workers to hammer out a strategy to take on the ruling BJD in the state,” he said.
As part of the strategy, the BJP would not only expose the misdeeds and loopholes in the governance under BJD, but also highlight the contributions of the Central government towards development of the state which have been usurped by the local party, Mohanty said.
“While playing the role of a responsible opposition in the Assembly, the BJP has been able to make people aware of the mistakes of the ruling party and garnered their confidence. The goodwill earned as an opposition party will enable the BJP to get voted to power,” he added.
It may be noted that the BJP had put up a dismal performance in the recently held elections to urban bodies and panchayati raj institutions, while the BJD had almost swept the entire state. In the urban polls, the BJD had won 95 of 108 municipalities and BJP was victorious in 16. The BJP managed to muster 42 zilla parishad zones against 766 of BJD out of the total 851 zones in the panchayat elections.
In the run-up to 2019 Assembly elections, Shah had unveiled ‘Mission 120’ claiming that BJP will come to power in Odisha with two-third majority. Some think that it is impossible to touch the 120 mark in Odisha, but unlike rivals, BJP can achieve this as it has mostly young leaders, he said.
