Bhubaneswar: BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Monday said that BJP took advantage of the poor show of the Congress in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha.
“For the BJD, the contest with the BJP was much harder than the Congress,” he said in an interview with India Today.
Stating that the vote share of the BJD in this election was 2 per cent more than the previous elections, he said the proper implementation of several welfare programmes ensured the landslide victory of BJD in the elections.
To a question on who he would pick as his successor, Naveen said, “I haven’t picked anyone as my successor. It is for the people of the state to choose a successor who will be from the BJD.”
Asked whether the BJD can repeat its winning spree in the next elections, he said with the unstinting trust reposed by the people of Odisha, his party will script its success for the sixth time in a row.
