New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on the BJP and RSS after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building on Sunday.
He pointed out that it was a day when President Droupadi Murmu was denied the right to do the honours and female wrestlers were ‘beaten up’ to expose three lies of BJP-RSS rule.
“The right to inaugurate the new Parliament was snatched from the President. Women players were beaten up on the streets with dictatorial force… The three lies of BJP-RSS rulers now stand exposed before the country — Democracy, Nationalism and Save the Daughter,” Kharge tweeted in Hindi.
“Remember Modi ji, democracy is not just about buildings but functions with the voice of the public,” he added.
The likes of Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat were detained by Delhi Police for “violating law and order” of the country. The wrestlers, who had planned a Mahapanchayat to draw attention to their demand of arresting wrestling federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, tried to breach the security cordon and tried moving towards the new Parliament building from their Jantar Mantar protest site.
The Congress has been extremely vocal against the Centre for “taking away” the President’s right to inaugurate the Parliament. The grand old party and 19 other Opposition parties boycotted the inauguration ceremony.
