Block Grant Teachers To Hold Mass Convention On Sixth Day Of Stir
Bhubaneswar: Block grant teachers, who are on an indefinite strike at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here since August 16, have decided to hold a mass convention to press for their longstanding demands.
“Over 70, 000 teachers and lecturers from different schools and colleges of the state will take part in the convention to put pressure on the government to fulfill our demands including abolition of block grant system, full grant-in-aid and service conditions,” All Odisha School-College Teachers and Employees’ United Forum convenor Prakash Mohanty said.
Stating that the government has assured that a ministerial-level meeting will be convened this evening to look into the demands of the association, Mohanty added that the agitation will be intensified in the days to come, if the government fails to keep its promise this time.
Pressing for their demands, the teachers had boycotted both Matric and Plus II evaluation process in April this year by staging protests before different evaluation centres.
