Phulbani: Vice-Chairman of Phiringia block in Odisha’s Kandhamal district was arrested for allegedly faking his own abduction in a dramatic style.
Apart from block Vice-Chairman Ajit Kumar Sahu, five of his associates were also arrested in connection with the fake kidnapping incident. Three vehicles were also seized by the police in connection with the incident.
Sources said Sahu reportedly went missing from Jajespanga ghat on June 2 and his associates Biranchi Mallick and Basanta Mallick lodged an FIR at Phiringia police station.
Following the complaint, police launched a probe and subsequently found Sahu from Sudra market in Baliguda. During questioning, it was found that Sahu had faked his kidnapping. Sahu admitted to the fake kidnapping plot and told police that they had enacted the drama to get people’s sympathy.
Based on Sahu’s statement, his five associates – Biranchi, Basanta, Ajit Rana, Trilochan Jhankar and Jukteswar Rana were arrested for helping him in the fake abduction plot.
A case has been registered at Phiringia police station and Sahu along with his five associates will be forwarded to court, police said.
Sahu said he had no intention to put the administration into trouble and he simply wanted to know how much sympathetic people are towards him.
