Bhubaneswar: Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Sanjay Kumar Singh visited the Patia area in the city to oversee the construction of an LPG-based crematorium on Friday.
He directed the officials to expedite the construction work and complete it within the time frame for operationalisation from May 25. This crematorium is designated for the cremation of deceased COVID-19 patients.
The operationalisation of this crematorium will lessen the burden of Satya Nagar crematorium.
Meanwhile, the electric burner at the Satya Nagar crematorium lying defunct since August last week has been repaired and is in use. The burden on the crematorium has increased due to the restrictions on funeral at the Swargadwar in Puri.
Apart from these two crematoriums, one more crematorium at Bharatpur on the outskirts of the city would be operational in a couple of days, BMC sources said.
