BMC Food Safety Team Raids Hotels In Bhubaneswar; Imposes Fine

Bhubaneswar: Intensifying its drive to check food quality in the state capital, the food safety team of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out raids at several hotels and eateries in the city.

Toughening its stand against eateries selling stale and rotten food, the BMC teams carried out the special drive to maintain food hygiene and cleanliness in eateries across the capital city.

A team of officials from BMC’s South-East Zone along with a squad of the state pollution control board (OSPCB) and food safety officials carried out the raids as part of the crackdown.

During the operation, fine of Rs 40,000 was imposed on a hotel for selling stale food.
Similarly, Rs 25,000 penalty was imposed on a hotel in Nayapalli area, while another hotel was fined Rs 20,000.

Another hotel in Patia area was made to pay a fine of Rs 55,000 for failure to maintain food hygiene.

During the raids, it was found that most of these hotels are not following proper procedure for discharge of waste.

These hotels have been issued show cause notice and asked to reply within three days, the sources added.
