BMC Steps Up Measures to Check Dengue Spread In Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: To prevent possible outbreak of mosquito-borne viral disease dengue and its spread, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued guidelines to be followed by all concerned, including government and private offices.

As mosquitoes normally breed in hard places, uncovered containers with stagnant clean water, BMC has urged all to persons concerned to take appropriate measures to check the spread of dengue.

The guidelines are as follows:

  • The civic body teams will inspect public parks to prevent water stagnation.
  • All heads of the Government offices have been asked to ensure that there is no stagnant water present within their office premises including their rooftop. A responsible staff may be given the responsibility for checking this aspect every day as soon as the office opens.
  • Office bearers of Resident Welfare Associations have been asked to take steps to prevent waterlogging within their premises and prevent breeding of mosquitoes.
  • All heads of educational institutions asked to similar steps for preventing storage of clean water inside their premises and assign this task for checking every day with a responsible officer.
  • Seized vehicles lying on the police station premises are also a potential source of stagnant rainwater which attracts mosquitoes. IIC concerned asked to clear all such stored stagnant water and cover the vehicle area to prevent rainwater from collecting in them.
  • The vehicle repairing shops/garage owners/tyre puncture repairing shops have also a large role to play in preventing the storage of clean stagnant water in the vehicle parts/tyres which stores rainwater. They should cover such areas forthwith and prevent stagnation of water.
