Cuttack: A family was in for a shock when told by police that the last rites of the person conducted by them on Monday evening was not Bilash Bhuyan, a native of Kuanasala village under Nemalo police station in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
They had cremated the mortal remains after receiving the same through a courier service. But the body was later found to have swapped with that of another man from Rajasthan and the matter came to light after his family filed a complaint with police in Mumbai.
“The body looked distorted but somewhat resembled Bilash. The final rites were carried out but to the shock of family members, they were later informed that the body was not that of Bilash,” said Sarat Kumar Mallik, a local resident.
Bilash had passed away following a brief illness a few weeks back in Mumbai where he worked in a private motor showroom.
Police informed that the family from Rajasthan is on their way to collect the mortal remains and are also bringing Bilash’s body with them.
