Mumbai: Approaching the middle of December, search engine Google has released its ‘Year in Search 2022’, revealing the biggest trends in various fields over the past 11+ months of the year.
As for Indian films, the results have thrown up a surprise. Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra Part One- Shiva’ generated the maximum interest.
The Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer wasn’t the most commercially successful Indian film of the year, lagging behind popular blockbusters like ‘KGF: Chapter 2’, ‘RRR’, ‘Kantara’ and ‘The Kashmir Files’. But the high-budget fantasy adventure movie topped the search list for Indian films in 2022.
‘Brahmastra’, which earned over earned over Rs 400 crore, also featured featured Mouni Roy, along with extended cameos from Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Nagarjuna.
It was a highly-anticipated film which took more than four years in making. It was Ranbir and Alia’s first film together, and the duo fell in love on its sets. When it was finally released in theatres in September, Ranbir and Alia were married for five months and expecting their first child.
Brahmastra was followed in Google search by Yash-starrer Kannada blockbuster ‘KGF 2’, which emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year.
Vivek Agnihotri’s much-discussed ‘The Kashmir Files’, on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, occupied third place, followed by four films from the South — Telugu sensation ‘RRR’, Kannada hit ‘Kantara’, Telugu blockbuster ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ and Kamal Haasan’s comeback Tamil movie ‘Vikram’.
Allu Arjun-starrer ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ released late last year, but dominated search trends in 2022 long enough to leave several films of this year in its wake.
As has been the box office trend in recent times, films from south India (5) pipped Bollywood movies (4) in the search list. Apart from ‘Brahmastra’ and ‘The Kashmir Files’ apart, Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and Ajay Devgn’s ‘Drishyam 2’ were the only other Hindi films to find a place in top 10.
The only Hollywood movie in the most-searched list is ‘Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder’.
