Jharsuguda: The model code of conduct for byelection to Brajrajnagar Assembly constituency in the district will come into effect from Wednesday.
Speaking to media persons, here on Tuesday, Jharsuguda collector Saroj Kumar Samal said as per the instruction of the Election Commission, the official notification for byelection to the constituency on May 31 will be released on Wednesday.
Stating that the election process will start from Wednesday with submission of nomination papers by the aspiring candidates, he said it will end on June 4. With the announcement of the election, the model code of effect will come into effect, he added.
The last date for filing nominations is May 11, while scrutiny of the papers will be held on May 12 and last date for withdrawal is May 17. The counting has been scheduled for June 3.
Samal said the district administration has already formed 5 SST and 5 flying squads to enforce the model code and take up the complaints filed on the EC portal regarding its violation.
The administration will convene a meeting of the political parties to explain the code of conduct to be followed by them during campaign and other election processes.
Regarding number of voters in the constituency, Samal said as per the voter list of January 1, 2022, total 2,14,261 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. However, the administration will make official announcement in this regard after getting the final instruction from the Election Commission, he added.
On special measures regarding law and order during election process, the collector said the administration is ready to conduct the election as per the guidelines of the Election Commission and meet any exigencies during the process.
The election has been necessitated following the death of Brajarajnagar MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty due to cardiac arrest on December 30 last year at the age of 63.
