Breaking Stereotypes: ‘Chatni’ Canteen Run By Specially-Abled Opens In Puri; Check The Menu

Puri: In today’s world, more and more specially-abled people are becoming independent and earning their livelihood. Acceptance by the people that the  specially-abled too are a part of an social fabric has changed things for the better for the people with special abilities.

Breaking the stereotypes, Puri district administration on Tuesday inaugurated a restaurant exclusively run by Divyangs.

‘Chatni’, the vegetarian restaurant, was inaugurated on the Puri Collectorate premises by Collector Samarth Verma.

Managed by 10 divyangs, the canteen has quite a delectable dishes on the menu. The canteen offered the most sought after summer delight of Odisha, ‘Dahi Pakhala’, on the inaugural day.

Informing about the canteen, the Collector said the canteen will meet the meals demands of collectorate staff as well as visitors. “The district administration will provide all support to them. However, hygiene will be a priority and they will have to manage it professionally,” said Verma.

The divyangs have been provided assistance under Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM) and Mission Shakti, Verma added. The priority of the district administration is to provide benefits of all schemes to the divangs, Verma added.

This apart, Khusi, an initiative to provide help to all types of vulnerable people will be provided help under this. Old-aged, physically-challenged or orphaned will be brought under one umbrella and provided services, Verma added.
