London: India celebrated when Rishi Sunak was appointed Prime Minister of the UK in October 2022.
He was, after all, the first Indian-origin British PM and also first Hindu to hold the prestigious office.
Just over a year and a half later, Sunak faces exit from 10, Downing Street.
National election in the UK will be held on July 4, and according to pollsters, the Conservatives under PM Sunak will lose hands down to the Keir Starmer-led Opposition Labour party, AFP reported.
In fact, the poll predicted that Labour party will record its biggest-ever election victory – by a thumping 194-seat majority.
The poll, which looked at voting estimates across all constituencies, predicted that Labour could win 422 out of 650 seats.
The YouGov poll, which was carried out for Sky News television, has given Sunak’s party 140 seats.
The previous record victory margin of Labour was achieved in 1997 under Tony Blair’s leadership.
This time, Starmer & Co. are projected to gain 222 seats following Labour’s bitter defeat in the 2019 election.
“This result would be beyond landslide territory,” YouGov said.
Sunak and his party leaders would hope that the poll is proven wrong, just as exit polls got it wrong on a number of counts in India’s Lok Sabha elections.
The opposition Liberal Democrat party is likely to quadruple its seats to 48, but the poll predicted no seat for Reform.
