Bhubaneswar: In a joint raid, the flying squad of the excise department arrested five persons from different places in Bhubaneswar and seized 27 grams of brown sugar and 25 litres of country liquor from their possession.
Acting on the directive of Excise Commissioner Debendra Mohapatra, the teams led by Excise superintendent Prasanna Kumar Acharya, IIC Sarat Chandra Bhanja and Inspector Debi Prasad Das raided areas in Baramunda, Khandagiri, IRC Village and Salia Sahi.
During the raid, five persons were arrested from whom 27 grams of brown sugar and 25 litres of country liquor were seized.
The team seized 15 grams of brown sugar and a scooter from Soumya Ranjan Sahu (33), 12 grams of brown sugar from Prasant Kumar Mohapatra (32). The cost of the seized brown sugar has been estimated at Rs 28,000.
Besides, the team also seized 25 litres of country-made liquor from Sohagimani Murmu (23), Champa Murmu (25) and Phula Tudu (45) estimated at more than Rs 3 lakh.
As informed by the Excise Commissioner, such raids will be conducted on a regular basis.
